An 8-bit version of Armored Armadillo's stage music. This might be my favorite song from the Maverick Bosses, but there are so many good songs from the first game, it's hard to pick out which one I truly like best.

Thanks goes to NintendoBrad for providing the link to the midi-to-NESWave converter.
You can download it at:

I found the midi file at http://www.vgmusic.com/
The sprite of Iris I made using a sprite sheet of X from MMXtreme 2 that I found at http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/

Megaman X and all related material is copyright Capcom. Original music by Setuo Yamamoto, Makoto Tomozawa, Yuki Iwai, Yuko Takehara, and Toshihiko Horiyama.

Midi synthesized by Jarel Jones.

  • This is not 8-bit. Sorry. You should use Famitracker if you want true 8-bit.

  • Sounds like something is chasing you and your 2 friends down a mine shaft... and you turn to see it, and it's... Mole Borer!

  • @AstrayWarrior rock on man

  • Hadoken!

  • This always struck me as sounding something between a circus theme and a crazy rock showtune... but it really works. Your version keeps pace. Well done.

  • @GamingCakes

    I was partially correct, then.

Lucky Japanese with their fancy soundchip.

I don't know why the composers wouldn't want to use the extra channel more often, though. You'd think they'd jump at a chance to do so.

  • @emperorIng360

Only Nintnedo and Konami used more than 4 channels in their music, and very rarely. In the Famicom, there was a chip included that allowed for an extra fifth channel. With Konami, they included a chip in their game cartridges that allowed for a fifth channel. This is known as VRC6.

  • Best Megaman song ever, love this old school version

  • @XtremeGameMan

Ya can only have four notes playing at the same time at any given time.

In technical terms, you can only have a four-channel polyphony.

I think the later-era Famicom allowed two more channels (check out the OST for the JPN Castlevania III and you'll see what I mean).
