Did you use peel away/strip away to get rid of past layers of paint? Currently stripping 140 years of paint off of identical cornice detail from my living room ceiling. Just wondering how you primed the plaster before handpainting the topcoat?

@Coltster80 Yes, I just followed the Peel Away instructions for any I did myself. A professional did 99.9% of the cleaning (using Peel Away) and then it's neutralised with 'Peelaway1 Neutralser'. Ideally it should be pH8, but I just painted over the bare plaster and it's been OK, so far. P.S. A neighbour used sugar soap and a toothbrush and achieved the same result (but he worked on it every night after work for 3 months without fail - which takes some doing, obviously). @Diomedes1962 Cheers that helps yeah! I've now done all the peel away peeling of the old paint and have a steam cleaner (for stripping wallpaper but with the end removed so there is just the nozzle) to do the scrubbing and cleaning down to the fine detail. Did a bit and looks soooo much better. Then I'll neutralise as you say, with the neutraliser that came with it, before painting. This stage should be most rewarding! Sugar Soap, Toothbrush and 3 months wow that is dedication! Many thanks!

@Coltster80 (I've done that with the nozzle too - on a plain Edwardian cornice at the m-i-l's - and it worked a treat, but I haven't painted it yet.) I hope you post your finished job as a video. I've got another one I might finish before Christmas and I would love to put that one up as well. Good luck with the finish.
