The second to last verse just kills me. Phil Ochs actually went through that and I probably will someday. This whole song is just a masterpiece and it really hits home. God bless you, Phil!

What depresses me is this:

Bush did more terrible things for protesters like Phil to sing about probably even more than LBJ or Nixon, but where are they? the only thing you hear in music today is rappers talking about sex and drugs, and the Disney cookie-cutter singers that are basically one giant commercial

its not on this genre anymore........try Immortal Technique, Grime, Rage Against The Machine (Zac is going to reappear soon I hope), Michael Franti - music back then was not all protest either, and the majority was crap just like now - we just have more bandwidth to spread it.

First of all, man, Phil was a stone-cold leftist who represented what most of us do stand for, and he wasn't loony. Most of today's imbeciles claim to be left, but they're usually the ones who support far-right causes like complete economic anarchy.

Phil did suffer from drinking bouts and mental illness at the end. I am not diminishing his great accomplishment in any way. He is still and always my favorite folksinger.

@mussman717word

You're absolutley right why would anyone want a seperation of economy and state ;)

Bring on the stimulus and regulators!! We're just one more law away from nirvana:)

C'mon, you can't have personal liberty without economic liberty (keep what you earn, support causes you believe in..etc).

The government inflates the currency (they force you to use) & that pays for war.

Leftists like Phil Ochs & Billy Bragg don't get that America is a republic not a democracy.

I hear a weak melody imo. But I am just comparing it to other Phil Ochs songs .. I thing this is a fucking awesome song for the average folksinger such as Tom Paxton.
