Suluk46 presents, "On The Trail", a series of informative videos related to ultralight backpacking products, techniques, trips, and tutorials. Episode #3, hosted by Steve Evans, with a guest appearance from Jason Deluca, covers a 5 day trip through Wakami Provincial Park on the 76 km long Height of Land Trail. With minimal information about this trail available both on the internet and from the park, this series of pictures and videos gives the viewer an idea of the type of terrain, weather, and general area that the hiker will encounter.

  • Great video. When was this?? I worked at Wakami for many years, and the trail used to be incredible..... Ii can only imagine how overgrown it is now. I brought my wife to Wakami to show her how great it was, and the campgrounds were embarrassingly unkempt. The canoe loop is a nice easy trip. Thanks for the post.... sure brought back memories

This was in August 2009. I remember the rangers telling us that only 1 other group had done the trail that year as most people turn around when the bush starts getting too thick. The rangers were really helpful in the planning of the trip but told me lack of funding is what lead to the poor trail conditions. Most of the back-country sites are unusable and appear to have not been used in years - some are even non-existent now. Of course, that just adds to the adventure!

  • My favorite place in the whole world.

Cool! I haven't met too many people that have visited the park. It was very quite when we were there.

    Hi Evelyne,

The park is very beautiful. Ontario parks all offer different things. In my opinion this one offers great solitude and wonderful overgrown forests - the park is not well used at all. We saw 2 bears this trip but neither bothered us. The park did warn us of some nuisance bears in the park but we keep a clean camp, practice LNT principles, and were never worried. As for the fishing, I don't fish so I can't help you there. Maybe call the park and ask.
