Here's another little ditty I put together, this time using an old Gretsch Clipper that I picked up on Ebay last year.

This particular one was made in late '57/early '58. It's one of the earlier versions with a deep body and an original DeArmond Dynasonic pickup. The Clipper is often called the "Poor Man's 6120" on account of its structural similarity to its more upmarket orange cousin. Back in 1957, they cost around $170 and the prices haven't really gone up all that much over the years.

  • how does that guitar sound accoustically? it's got a great sound thru the amp!

  • Acoustically this thing is loud! It could work as an acoustic guitar in its own right. They're very different to the new ones, I find (in a positive way, obviously)

  • @JohnnyFriendly Could you install a bridge pickup and make it a 6120 if you wanted to?

  • @BL80488 Yes. You'd have the same sound but a less fancy guitar hardware-wise.

  • read the info, how did it arrive to you? what kind of packing? not sure i could go through with it myself. congrats on your find! :)

  • Really nicely packaged, came with hard case etc but I agree, it is a bit of a risk.

On the other hand, it's the only way we're ever going to get hold of things like this.

  • @BL80488 Would take more than an additional pickup to make it a 6120. It's more valuable as it is, anyway.

  • Yeah I'll have to organise that one of these days.

  • put them up so people can download them

  • Ha ha...wow...that's quite a compliment. I never figured on these having any commercial value at all.

I do have some mp3s that I've done minus the camera. Haven't really figured out what to do with them yet.
