You need satellite access and some kind of data access, either phone service or wifi. This has worked except once in the mountains when I had no phone service at all.

@androidmommy Actually you dont, latest maps update offers offline navigation so you can drive without carrier signal

@rroge5 No, you have to memorise the route with your mind. Of course you could upload the google mind maps (C) software and plug the dongle into your frontal lobe implant, that way allowing complete handsfree navigation with 3D imaging by way of optic reversal transmission.
