Maybe there was something wrong with mine - I had (and still have) a Korg 700s monophonic, with the same 'traveller' filter arrangement, but the Poly never sounded anything like as good as the mono. I never saw another PE1000, so had nothing to compare it with I suppose. A few years later (frustrated with lack of touch-sense) I threw away the instrument inside, and kept the flight case which I used for all sorts of things for many years!!!
I had one of these. THE problem was that although it is completely polyphonic (you can press all the keys, and ALL the notes sound!), there are only two envelope generators. So, as you can hear in this demo (about 1 minute in) you can't play a slow arpeggio adding one note after another with a slow attack. Subsequent notes have an instant attack. This does sound a little better than I remember... probably back then I was wishing it was a Moog, but the filter has no resonance!
Nice demo

@maydaygalliard weird. I have a PE1000 Mk1 and mine definitely has resonance up to a point where it self oscillates.
