@joshphilippi Glad to hear you are working on "cricket." I included a lot of my stickings in the score but, again, you shouldn't feel obligated to use them if something else works better for you. Keep me posted on any performances. Thanks!
@BlakeTysonMusic my sticking choices tend to just be based on rules i was taught when i first started on mallets. i.e. i alternate on all of the scalar lines to avoid double-sticking, but i've noticed it's not the most popular choice. and i also prefer to play the vibraphone part with four mallets because it helps with some of the skips and avoids awkward two-mallet stickings in certain places. such a beautiful piece though. i've recently started learning 'a cricket sang and set the sun'
@joshphilippi I'm always interested in seeing what ideas performers have when deciding on stickings. Often, different stickings bring out different musical ideas. That being said, the sticking on the marimba part here looks very similar to how I play it. I use the crossover on the opening and linear permutations in the scalar passages, but many of my friends alternate everything. Also, I use 4 mallets on the vibe part. Whatever works for you.
BTW, I enjoyed your 2 marimba version of the piece.
bring the vibe up higher so you dont need to use so much armm
