@vexviper Russia went into Afghanistan at the request of the then democratically elected government that was facing an insurgency by Mujahideen terrorists attacking Afghan civilians and Afghanistans institutions. That was the purpose. Of course, the western media likes to paint the mission as simply to use civilians as target practise, while dragging all the mountains with T72's to Russian territory for resource recovery.
