In 2008, while filming "Our World: StormChaser" for the BBC, we visited a lifelong friend of mine who is the emergency management director for the City of Altus, Oklahoma, Lloyd Colston.
Lloyd was kind enough to let us tour the E.O.C. and explained how emergency management operates, and how storm spotting is different than storm chasing. My favorite part of the clip is when I asked him "Why is this all underground", and he says that because he lives in Tornado Alley, and that everything above ground is going to be "sucked off the face of the planet" and that he wants to survive a tornado event so that he can come and rescue... well me after the storm has passed. I suppose that's fair enough.
