In her case it was worth it to have power over a man. They (meaning men) already cut out her clitoris, made her marry a 60 year old man when she was 18, raped her (over 3 times (3 different men)), was used, beaten up, imprisoned by Bayoumi and many other things along the way. If all of that happened to me i would want power over a man! She gained riches and power in becoming a prostitute. She had no other choice unless she wanted to continue the path of being abused.

she makes many attempts to become something else, but continuously gets hurt in the process and realizes why it is better to be a prostitute rather than a married female. If you go to page 74 she has an entire monologue of why it is better to be a prostitute rather than a woman. she brings up very good points. Plus by becoming a prostitute, she finally gains power over men when they always had the power over her. I'm assuming you are a male reader.
this was a very well done video, but you made her seem like she turned into something bad by ending it on a negative note. The book makes you feel sympathy for her even when she's a prostitute because she had reasons in becoming what she did and, at first, she didn't even know what she was doing.

The books makes me feel sympathy for her, but she could have still chosen a different job and stayed away from what she was doing. It is her responsbility to learn and see what is right from wrong. I did feel bad for her, because she grew up in a bad community.

Actually I am a female reader. I guess I do see your point. It would be really hard for her to become something else, but is it really worth it to feel power over men? I would think it would have been better if she just worked on some other different job. I am sure there were other jobs, not only prostitution.
