FARSIDE rocket-balloon launch from Eniwetok Atoll

View of the launch operations of a four stage rocket using as first stage an stratospheric balloon.

This was the most advanced system that used this combination called "Rockoon". It was a launch under the umbrella of the FARSIDE project.

I love how they lie several times in this video. No single launch went without a hitch, and this was not a lead over the soviets and sputnik.

Anyway, what a great fun project. This would be something we could recreate today as amateurs.

Thanks for posting, I have 6 months of "in country" time on that atoll back in the 1970s during the clean up.
