How ever they wish to play it is correct. No one is required to try and match it beat for beat and note for note against a moment in time over 30 years ago.
Yeah I heard it was a hallway, but either way, I think people are being overly critical, because it is near-impossible to reproduce the force of the recorded drums for this song in a live setting.
Hate to say it, but it's a tune that Zep covered. Memphis Minnie wrote it years before they did it. How cool is it to have a slide guitar and slide bass? There was a lot of studio trickery that went into making Leevee a great album track. Recording drums in a two-story stair well, as well as recording in Open G then slowing the tape down to F can't really be reproduced "live" by proxy...Also, this isn't a slam on anything you said, just adding my two cents. Peace!
nah, the drum beat is actually echoed, no double lash or anything, when they recorded it they had bonham laying at the lower end of some stairs and recorded at the top, so it gave the echo.
You kidding? This is wicked, if anyone has a right to do this song then John Paul Jones does, especially with talent like Questlove and Ben Harper. Who cares if it isn't Led Zeppelin playing is, it still rocks I would have gone crazy.
Eh, sure it's not the same without bonzo. But come on, when plant comes in with the harmonica at the beginning its like "Ooooooh shiiiiit!". I think this is one of those zep tunes that shouldn't be covered ever.
DAMN IT I wanted to do this!!!! God its like everything I think of Musically Led Zeppelin has done it :(
