Prolog from Elisabeth the musical.

I do plan to subtitle the whole thing eventually but I do have work other than this so it may take some time. Please support the artists by buying the DVD of the musical but I hope you enjoy it even more when you can understand it ^^

This is the main cast as listed in the credits. I'll translate the full credits when I get to that point.
Johann Ebert -- Crownprince Rudolf, as child
Dennis Kozeluh -- Duke Max, Elisabeth's Father
Luzia Nistler Duchess Ludovika, Elisabeth's Mother
Fritz Schmid -- Archduke Rudolf, Elisabeth's Son
Else Ludwig -- Archduchess Sophie, Elisabeth's Mother-in-law
Andre Bauer -- Emperor Franz Joseph, Elisabeth's Husband
Serkan Kaya -- Luigi Lucheni, Elisabeth's Murderer
Mate Kamaras -- Death, Elisabeth's lover
Maya Hakvoort -- Elisabeth, Empress of Austria

  • thank u so much for uploading it :) Its great.

But at 4:44 he says she loved Heinrich Heine and not she loved death and he loved her.

  • @Sternenstaub2001 Yes, I know. I'm actually making an updated sub file that can be used with the DVD right now. I was very, very new to German when I first made this and, at that point not realising that Heinrich Heine was a name, I got very confused. Found some lyrics that said 'Sie liebte den Tod. Und er liebte sie.' and took it from there.

I guess I had been learning German for about five months when I started this project - you can see how my German gets better throughout with less mistakes!

  • @nomyzs96 Which Zuka version are you referring to in particular? I wouldn't say any of them were better although I do love the company. The two versions are very different.

It has to be said, without this there would be no Takarazuka version at all!

  • @nomyzs96 As much as I love the Takarazuka versions, none of the Luchenis there can reach Serkan Kaya. And I say that as a big fan of several of the Siennes (Wataru, Kiriyan, Kimu, Masao...) Not to mention that the Takarazuka version of Kitsch is utter crap. :( Talk about mutilating lyrics until there's nothing left of the original.

However, I prefer pretty much ANY Takarazuka Death over Kamaras... I guess it's a matter of taste? XD

  • @luthienmpl And Szabo P Szilveszter over any 'Zuka one. Sorry, had to come in with that! I love that theatre company (although I'm not so keen on their Elisabeth compared to many of their things)

  • Someone really needs to hurry up and make a proper English-language production. Thanks for posting this.

  • This musical kind of makes me wish I choose German as my language ellective in school instead of Japanese.... No offense to Takarazuka, but I like this better in German... Plus Mate is adorable.

  • @potomusicfan4ever yep, Serkan was in a production in Vienna (at around the same time he did this version of "Elisabeth") as Judas. Then again in 2008 opposite Drew Sarich

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z hell yeah

  • Bless you.

  • Am I the only one slightly bothered by Death's Elvis shirt? Also Lucheni sounds magnificent!!!

  • if death looks like that, I would gladly dance with him :)

  • @jelliclemuse

I don't blame him. It's really a shame that there's seems to be this school of thought that if a european musical is being translated for Broadway it needs to be "dumbed down". Many wonderful musicals such as Tanz Der Vampire were ruined that way.

Give me the musical in it's original language and country any day.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this wonderful musical!

When I heard Mate and Serkan sing in the Prolog my first thought was "These two would be great in Jesus Christ Superstar!" Anyone know if either of them were in a production of that musical?

  • Mmmh, would'nt mind dying, if he is the Dead!

  • This is one of the best opening numbers of any musical I've ever seen.
