The character Matthew plays is an awful lawyer!!!! He should have redirected, and gave the witness the opportunity the explain his statutory rape conviction. For all the jury knew, the girl could have been the witness's girlfriend or fiancee at the time, only a few years younger than him at the time, and that would've resolved his credibility.

He does in the closing argument. In the book it says Brigance did not know about the statiatory at the time of Buckley's cross examination.
