I eventually went AWOL and never saw combat, but fellow soldiers talked about the crimes committed by our brothers and "shadows."
These crimes are quite common during war. Each war has a long list of unspeakable actions. And for you to claim they do not exist, simply because you weren't there to see it or because no one will come forward, is beyond asinine.
