This video clip shows proper form of the ab crunch. If this is too easy you can hold a weight behind your head, if it is too hard you can put your hands over your waist (see other video clip for easy version). Key point is to use slow good form and to only move using the abs. No whipping the head around, you will screw up your neck!
Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts.

Actually you shouldn't put your hands behind your head; you can place your hands near your temples or forehead so as not to put strain on your neck, or fold your arms across your chest.

I agree with the principle but not your implementation. The head is pretty heavy and the neck muscles weak so the head needs to be supported during the long duration of the crunches. The hands should only lightly push up on the head, just enough to support it. Personally, I find it difficult to provide enough upward force to support the head by putting my hands near my temples but everyone is different.
