Community Voices presents "Worlds Apart" and "BLOW!", two short documentaries from Chapman University's Dodge College of Film & Media Arts. View the struggle of a Native American woman stuck between two worlds in "Worlds Apart," and a gay college student struggling to understand a law in Singapore that makes homosexuality illegal in "BLOW!". The Community Voices series puts student filmmakers in the community to create character-driven, compelling stories about the challenges people face and the programs that help to meet those needs. I'll comment on the documentary on Singapore since I'm more more familiar with that. (1) It's not illegal to be gay - 377A criminalizes sexual activity between men regardless of sexual orientation. Decriminalizing it will take some time, but we must remember that it was only in 2003, with Lawrence v. Texas, that the sodomy laws in 14 US states were invalidated. (2) Public demonstrations (with the exception of those in Hong Lim Park) are illegal, hence we don't go out to protest on the streets.
