SABC takes the chair out of finance chairman Nhlanhla Nene

The sizeable Nhlanhla Nene was being interviewed on Tuesday on SABCs daily parliamentary review programme, A View from the House, which airs from 8.30am to 9am.

While answering a question put to him by SABC presenter Hayde Fitzpatrick, a loud crack can be heard coming from his chair.

Although Nene appears slightly flustered by the sound, he bravely continues talking. But after a few seconds, his chair breaks and he falls behind the studio desk, leaving only his glass of water and notebook in view. The camera then returns to an unfazed Fitzpatrick.

This was one of my most embarrassing moments! a good-humoured Nene exclaimed yesterday.

He said people were still talking about it. My daughter cried when she saw the video. I know it is one of those things, which is why I will not lay charges against the SABC.

I believe it was an accident and the SABC head of news, Snuki Zikalala, has apologised.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said the incident was totally unforeseeable. We at the SABC do not blame Mr Nenes weight but will take necessary precaution to make sure that such an incident does not happen, even if it means changing our chairs, Kganyago said.

Hi I'm black and I thought the video was humorous because that was what the person who posted the video intended. The really funny thing is he got the warning crack and didn't bother to balance himself properly, there was really no need for him to callapse like that I think he was dloing a bit of grandstanding in his own way

This racism in making to embarrase Chairman Nhlanhla Nene. He was definately set up by SABC2 to embarrase him in the face of millions of people around the world.
