Fields of watermelons in China's Jiangsu province exploded when farmers used growth accelerator forchlorfenuron too late in the season and during wet conditions, which caused the watermelons to explode like landmines. Forchlorfenuron makes a plant's cells divide faster, speeding up harvest cycles and increasing fruit size. In the US it is used on kiwis and grapes.
