I was raised Nazarene and even attended Nazarene Bible College, but I left the denomination 14 years ago for a variety of reasons, but one of the main reasons is that it was losing its spirit. It seems to be going the way the Methodist church went in the 1800's, which spawned the Holiness Movement from which both the Wesleyan-Holiness and Pentecostal churches sprang.

As DKrauter pointed out, the attached pic is clearly Camp Byron in Wisconsin. I'm 99% sure the service was from the 1958 meeting, recorded by Ernest Pennington on his wonderful reel to reel tape deck. Don and Evelyn Gibson were the DS at the time.

@DKrauter I read a statement that was put out by the Nazarene Church in the late 20s shortly after they dropped the name "Pentecostal" which condemned the practice of clapping their hands and stomping their feet. They acknoledged that it was a common practice in the Nazarene church from the beginning, but it had become associated with the tongues movement. They felt like it would be better to distance themselves from clapping their hands and stomping their feet as to not appear..."Pentecostal"!

@holinesspentecostal I believe the Nazarene church lost some of it's excitement when they dropped the Pentecostal from the church name. I understand why but the Nazarene church definitely pentecostal back in the day. How would that fit in to our seeker sensitive Nazarene churches now.

@scooterbugs25 I am a 3rd Generation Nazarene. I do miss the camp meeting days. Nazarene camps are all but gone. Central Florida sold it's camp right in the heart of tourist heaven. There was a pureness to these times that I miss. I also love contemporary praise and worship. It is not all about the music but what is being preached from the pulpit after worship. Unfortunately we are sacrificing the sanctification and salvation message to be more seeker sensitive.

Wow...this brings back memories. The photo looks very much like the old meeting grounds we attended when I was a kid. I remember the splinters from the hewn pews, the sawdust, the cobwebs, and occasionally a tarantula or rattlesnake making its way through the meetin' hall.....and those church meetings that would last until the wee hours of the morning.
Praise the Lord for the days of campmeetings. Oh how I wish we still had them. I am so thankful I had the privilege of attending the old campmeetings.

This is Amazing. My dad is currently a Nazarene Pastor Here in Australia and we still sing Tthose good old Hymns. We have a lot of youth in our district which also run the music, the clapping and so on are definitely existent in our worship just not so much dancing..lol But it also depends on the church and culture. There are Nazarene churches all around the place that love to dance to the music and clap then some keeping to themselves to the more traditional ways as it was introduced time ago

This is great church music! Too bad its not this simple and pure anymore. The Nazarene church used to have "Holiness unto the Lord" written across the front wall. They've since painted over that sign and rightfully so since they are not Holiness anymore. Its sad. I'm so thankful and grateful for the Holiness church I go to. There's not many of us left that still preach that it takes Holiness and separation from the world or you will burn in a devils hell through out the ceaseless ageless!

@scooterbugs25 Thanks so much. Used to be Nazarene camp gounds across the U.S. Nazarenes would actually take their vacations and go to camp meetings. Now if you don't have a loud dance band, you can't get many of them to church on Sunday morning.
