@Debbiebabe69 Actually, laputa refers to The Whore of Babylon from Revelation, and in this case is an attack on certain practices and beliefs of the Church at the time.

@Bakkerkid Laputa is Spanish for 'whore' or something like that. The writers of Gullivers Travels chose the name because of that. The writers of the film Laputa got the name Laputa from Gullivers Travels, but had no idea what it translated as.

@valromatorre Laputa is the name of one of the islands that Gulliver travels to in Gulliver's Travels. It is a floating city of aristocrats who will direct the island over the fields of any village below that refuses to pay them, preventing rain and sunlight from getting to the crop. If the rebellion continues, they crush the village. It has nothing to do with Spanish.
