  • If I'd have won that 160 million on the lottery I'd personally make sure that XH558 could fly at every air show for as long as I still had breath in my body

And isn't the B52 an ugly old beast.....in a cool sort of way

  • @killerbeez95

I'm just surprised the RAF didn't do what we always seem to do in this country..... sell the rights to the the yanks so they can claim credit for building such a beautiful beast!

  • Ballsie wing over... Way to go!

  • @KateLiker Yup!

  • WOW .......that's a lot of wing !!

  • @TimBrewin It's superb manouerability is due to it's huge wing surface area, which provides low wing loading. At high altitude, it can run rings around contemporary fighters such as the Lightning, fighters and their small wing surface areas have much higher wing loading than the Vulcan. She is very efficient at high altitude. I read an account by a ret RAF Sdn Ldr who flew Lightning in the 70's. He engaged in an air to air intercept Ex againt 1 Vulcan v 2 Ltg-it ran rings around them!

  • @KateLiker Good speech sir! If I had the difficult 'problem' of how to spend a portion of a huge lottery win, XH558 would be second on the list only to charities concerned with the welfare of British service personnel. I would dearly love to be in a position to publically embarass & humiliate our political masters by making a public donation, whilst querying WHY such an inspirational icon of British engineering prowess, receives ZERO pounds from HM Government in support.

  • One of the most gorgeous looking planes ever!

  • I think the RAF should have done what the Americans did with the B52 update the electrics and you have still got a great bomber.

  • For such a big aircraft, the Vulcan is extraordinarily manouvreable.
