Boshko's Bulgarian Bowie Knife

A hand-made Bowie Knife, made for me by a Bulgarian craftsman, called Boshko Neskov.

Hi, my name is Arthur Hooley, I'm an Englishman, married to a Bulgarian lady, living in Bulgaria. Now, her uncle Boshko is a master metal worker and as a hobby he makes hunting knives. He gave me the smaller knife, shown in the video, as a present and it's an useful tool around the camp-site, but I wanted something bigger, so I asked if he's seen a Bowie Knife. He said "No", so I told him the story of Jim Bowie and his famous knife. Well, he said if I gave him a pattern he would make me one. After much research on the internet this is the knife we came up with.

Description of the knife:
- 15" overall length
- 9" length of the blade
- 2" at the widest part
- 1 1/4" at the shoulder
- 1/8" thick
- just over 1 lb in weight
- the handle is made of natural antler bone, taken from a deer, shot in our local forest
- made from vanadium stainless steel
- does not bend
- takes a razor edge, that will last all day and never crack

I'm not a knife expert but I just want to say that that is a beautiful knife. Your friend is truly talented. I have seen similar looking knives that go for around $300 to $400 (and even more). Check out 'Custom Bowie Knife' by fitzenknives here on YouTube. Good luck.

Your bowie is a beauty and follows the Bowie pattern quite nicely. In USA dollars this knife with quality sheath will fetch $175. or more.

I read that red stags in eastern Europe have larger antlers with more points than in UK. Have you found this to be true? What is the most common rifle used in Bulgaria for hunting red deer?  Paul

a am not realy a expert abot bowie knives bat it is a custom made knife so it is worth a lot if the knife is made right and all.. cool knife!!
