@56StephenMWhite Yep! They ALL had great voices, but then Motown didn't have ANYONE who wasn't super taented. I've never thought she had a thin voice, higher softer and sweeter maybe but i think she has a great vocal projection.
@boltonox I have loved her w/ the group, and solo for all those reasons, plus sone.... Diana has a unique quality in that she makes you LEAN IN to listen to her. Her diction, syntax, phrasing and that thin, yet gorgeous voice. Listen to the Motown Karaoke releases of the original hits by most Motown artists w/ the lead singer's voice wiped off. You'll be amazed @ 'I hear a symphony' and what Flo & Mary do w/ those harmonies....
@56StephenMWhite I don't know if thats true, but its quiet obvious which of the girls had the more sellable voice or she WOULDNT have been the primary singer. DR also had a certain X factor the other girls did not, as well as a voice that could convey a tremendous amount of emotion and no female voice has ever had the silky sensuous qualities of her voice even to this day. Take a listen to "Upside down" "Aint no mountain" Love hang over" My old piano" Chain reaction" Im comming out" etc.
@boltonox The Supremes' signature 3-part harmonies made them the group they were. The 'other girls', Mary Wilson, (lower than Diane) and Florence Ballard (high) packed Dianes beautiful, if thin voice into a fuller, more powerful sound. Go back and listen to them w/ both ears. Long Gone Love - Flo steals it @ the end and takes it to heaven... Diana never even had the best voice in her group, Flo, then Jean Terrell and finally, Scherrie Payne, sister of Freda, all could out sing her.
Amii Stewart has a great singing voice, but not for this Diana Ross lead song "Where Did Our Love Go", the original Supremes version cannot be beat, although I do believe the late great Donnie Elbert comes close to it as second best.

@RedRoosterRoad Sorry i realise that. My mistake, but Dianna's voice WAS the SUPREMES sound. The other girls only ever sang back-up to her.
