Tando Mohammad Khan (TMK) is one of the less developed districts in Sindh province, Pakistan. It is located in the south of the province.
The major section of the people earns their livelihood by cultivating their lands and minor section from businesses and jobs. This city almost lacks in social and educational privileges and suffering from poor infrastructure.
This year Tando Muhammad Khan (TMK) has witnessed a worst rain falls causing havoc in the area. Heavy water falls resulted in 3-4feet of water accumulated in streets, homes and shops crippling entire human life, destroying standing crops on hundreds of acres of land, available food and commodities in shops. Several feet of water is standing due to chocked sewerage system and contaminated the drinking water. It will almost take 6 to 8 weeks for ultimate discharge of water in the sea and there are chances of diseases outbreak in the coming days due contaminated and stagnant water and also rise of DANGI mosquitoes.

Tando Mohammad Khan has already been declared as calamity hit area, 50,000 families and 250,000 people have been affected by torrential rains. Though there are other obstacles like shortages of food, tents, beds, blankets etc but the fundamental requirement is drinking water. The available water in the area has been polluted by the flood, sewerage water and people are in a dire need of drinking water. Some aid is reaching but most of the parts of TMK are facing immense shortage. Such water pollution may cause acute or chronic health effects which may prove more dangerous.
Inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene may result in high incidence of water and sanitation related diseases in Tando Mohammad Khan (TMK), which in turn may increase morbidity and mortality rates and pose a major threat to the survival and development of children. For the sake of public health, it is absolutely essential to establish drinking water quality standards and criteria that are chemically balanced and medically safe and arrangements shall be made(water filters for home use, filtered water booth for villages/ communities at distance of may be 1or2 kilometers and water filter plants) for the provision of pure/safe/healthy drinking water to all affected people in TMK to lessen the severity of the calamity.
