  • If I was you I'd take out the spark plug and see if it dose the same thing. If it doesn't do it then it might be the starter.

    I hope I can help

If it did spin free email me if it didn't help email me at (lazerblazer@optimum.net)

  • Hey ok ya 1 it's just the comp. Is off and 2 the engine is bad u can't repair it it'll always b a rod bender!

  • @RisingReaper88 I know this now. It was at my house to be fixed later on. But its gone now

  • @Kawasakiforlife7 He doesn't have points on this motor...

  • I had the EXACT same problem on my mower. I would be willing to bet if you adjust the valve cleanance it will solve the problem. The fact that it acted up after replacing the headgasket makes sense since it probably would have changed the clearance. The camshaft has a built in compression release. If the clearance is not tight enough, the compression release cannot hold the valve open and the engine is very hard to turn over. Donyboy 73 has an excellent Youtube video on this subject.

  • These carbs are notorious for gas leaking down into the cylinder. Now we know fluids dont compress so when you try and crank it ,not gonna work. Ill bet it was hydro locked and thats when the rod bent.

  • Sounds like it's definitely out of time to me. Check the flywheel key and if it's got even a hint of an issue, REPLACE IT with a new key specifically designed for your application. DO NOT USE just any flywheel key you've got laying around or you're asking for more problems. As for the bent pushrod, DO NOT STRAIGHTEN IT UP and re-use it. Buy a new one. This would be a real good time to just pull the head off and do a complete valve job on it. I would if it were me.

  • make sure there isn't a bunch of gas in the cylinder, adjust valves, and if its backfiring through the carb, check your flywheel key. mine had all the same problems, except the bent pushrod

  • Put a chevy engine in it. That way you could PWN all the Ford queers mowing their lawns.

  • Valves need adjusted. Slow turn while starting, the valves are supposed to open early to make it easier to start. Hard cranking means the valves are not opening soon enough.
