Each year, high school debaters from across the nation are invited to spend a few summer weeks with each other on Northwestern University's Evanston campus. The students are known as "cherubs," a name affectionately given to participants in the National High School Institute, the country's oldest and largest university-based program for outstanding high school students. Follow the debate cherubs as they argue away their days.

I spent four years as a HS debate member, and more @ university. The pace of speech today in HS debate has become so difficult to follow it is no longer about the actual merits, but who can "out speak," the other team (a similar issue happens during LD Debate). It's insane. One should offer his/her arguments in a way that, yes, the fast pace matters, but today, it seems to only characteristic that matters.

Dumb. This isn't arguing, speaking, or even talking in a civilized manner. This is barbaric. Terrible. Trying Congressional Debate, MUN, Lincoln Douglas, that is ridiculous.

Perfectly ridiculous!

Might be a thrill, but it's not debate. It's useless as a debating tool. To communicate one has to be able to be understood. This is just bull sh*t.

FAIL, thats why there is Lincoln Duglas, or Extemp, or Student Congress or, other lesser important formes of Debate, Policy debate is about argumentation, speed, delivery, quickness on your feet, and provides a thrill unexperienced in other forms, I know, I have tried them, time flies while competing in a policy debate round, even though it takes up to 90 minutes.
