The first 'Cultural Fash' workshop was held at the Baranduda Community Centre on January 23, 2012. Winner of the Youth Ambassador Award at the 2011 RED Carpet Youth Awards Kim Blanza stole the show, showing off some acrobatic dance moves for the media on the day.

The project will involve people of all ages and backgrounds working with local dance artist Tim Podesta to create an original piece of choreography to be performed in three flash mobs at Carnivale's street festival on Saturday, March 10.

During the remaining school holidays, workshops to learn the choreography will be held at community centres in Wodonga.

Regional Academy of Performing Arts' (RAPA) director Tim Podesta said that everyone is invited to attend the workshops and no experience is required.

"We want the flash mobs to be as big as possible," he said.

"One seemingly random person will start moving amongst the thousands of people enjoying the street festival.

"Other people that seem like they are just enjoying the street festival will then join in, before hopefully we have 100 people doing the same routine.

"The project is an opportunity for people who have wanted to be part of a dance piece, but might have been a bit nervous or anxious, to be involved.

"It is rare for a regional centre to create a project like this.

"Nothing has been conceived and we will be all working from the ground up.

"We are marketing the multiculturalism of Wodonga."

All workshops will be held from 10am to 11.30am at:

• Monday, January 23 -- Baranduda Community Centre
• Tuesday, January 24 -- Belgrade Community Centre
• Wednesday, January 25 -- Fellltimber Community Centre
• Monday, January 30 -- Baranduda Community Centre
• Tuesday, January 31 -- Felltimber Community Centre
• Wednesday, February 1 -- Belgrade Community Centre

Workshops will continue after the school holidays at the community centres, Catholic College Wodonga, Wodonga Senior Secondary College, Frayne College and Wodonga Middle Years College.
