My father, Capt. Doit L. Fish, was a WWII U.S. Marine Corps PBJ-1 (B-25) pilot assigned to Marine Bombing Squadron VMB-611. The squadron's first combat assignment was Emirau Island, striking the Rabaul area. Their second combat assignment was Moret Field, Zamboanga, Mindanao, Philippine Islands. There they flew strikes against Japanese targets and provided air support to ground troops.
On May 30, 1945, Dad and his seven crewmembers went MIA during a strike on Kibawe Trail near Davao, Mindanao on his 25th mission. The wreckage of his aircraft and the crew's skeletal remains were discovered November 16, 1956. A group burial of the eight Marines, with full military honors, was held on July 15, 1957 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
This is my tribute to Dad. In his honor, SEMPER FI.

  • David,

My father, too, was a B-25 bomber pilot w/ VMB-611. Daddy returned from the war in November 1945.. He stayed in close touch with his brothers until his death in 1995, and I was fortunate to have met many of the men in the squadron, both during Daddy's lifetime and at his funeral.

Thank you for this video. It's a fine tribute to your father and to all the men who served with him.

  • I cannot help but get a lump in my throat everytime I see this beautifully done tribute!

I also must share this with my list of friends! No thanks will every be sufficient to express the gratitude we feel toward our brave!

  • We especially remember the likes of your father, and the families left behind, on a solemn day such as this!

    Thank you!

  • My father was a little boy in Bohol during the war and he said they would gather at hill top and cheer whenever they see American planes en route to attack Japanese positions. They don't know where the planes come from but sometimes they are heading to Mindanao and sometimes to Cebu. We are thankful for the sacrifices of your father for the liberation of the Philippines.

  • My grandpa was a pfc of the 163rd regiment 41st division and fought and was wounded in march of 1945 in this same area.(ZAMBOANGA/MINDANAO)
