Beginning in late June 2009 and extending through the next several months, the 62-year-old Bell Research Building the site of many important research projects and discoveries by School of Medicine faculty and the focal point for integration at Duke -- will be retired and deconstructed.
Although the building had begun to feel its age over the past several years, it continued to occupy a prominent role in the history of research on the Duke University Medical Center campus.
Now, as the building faces demolition, Duke faculty, faculty emeriti, and one former Bell Building night watchman -- who eventually became a leading corporate executive and university trustee -- briefly share their memories about the buildings place in Duke history.
