Preserved CNR 'Northern Type' steam locomotive #6213 starts to roll out of it's home enclosure at Exhibition Place Toronto on the way to a new home at the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre.
I see there is alittle comfusion first yoou gave the GT&W 4-8-4 the wrong number its 6323 I belive the reson it was built inthe US is so the railroad wold not have o to pay import dutty on it now he Candiann Pcific had a diffent Idea theey used the oldest power on US lines like in Maine pre world war I pacifics and I believe up to the l980,s Alco RS3 perhaps the last use in the us on a first class raod
@SUPERDAVIDLEVINE Just to add: Montreal Locomotive Works became an exclusive ALCO design shop and acquired a substantial portion of the Canadian steam locomotive market. (taken from Wikipedia)
@SUPERDAVIDLEVINE , What makes you say US built? As far as I know Steam locomotives in Canada were built in Canada, "Montreal Locomotive Works" was one of them. Even after "American Locomotive Company" (ALCO) has bought "MLW" then named "Locomotive & Machine Company of Montreal", MLW still had its head quarters and manufacturing in Montreal and design were developed there, the Canadian goverment put custom fees to discouraged companies to buy US built locomotive. Read on wikipedia.
what a aifgt it must have been to bring the US built NC engine back to life what is the statis of it woul love to see here run one tiome inmy life but aall I se on this to lng viseo is it being toed dead steam is emosional there is no money and railfns are ralfans I think even steam town they call it a waist of money oh, I see they keep it stock with the Elaso1coexhaust steam injector the fireman hated the andI could think of some engines CN 6060 andMild Road261one had themm takne off
@andykins118118 Whenever you move a LOCOMOTIVE or any piece of rolling stock that has not moved for many years without lubrication, you always want to be careful to not stress out the potentially seized bearings by taking your time.
@SUPERDAVIDLEVINE Nope, 6323 is in Illinois and is not going anywhere at the moment. This locomotive is in Canada.
