Okay changed paint to Gloss Smoke Gray, has much better shine than Smoke Gray. 2 coats on so far with super fine foam 4" roller. Things are looking pretty good. Still have to finish bodywork, but thats pretty easy. Roof, truck bed rail, and bottom of truck which is dark blue right now will be painted a Gloss Maroon or something close to that. Hopefully all will work out.

For all the people that say wet sanding every 2 coats is hard?!? It's not hard at all, use a hose not a bucket and get a 3m rubber hand sanding block for your paper. I plan on very lightly wet sanding this 2nd coat with 600 grit wet/dry paper.

After 4th coat I will wet sand again with 800 grit wet/dry paper, I will post another video to show you the results. So far I'm into it for 36 bucks :)

  • would it hurt to takes some of the lights and trim off to avoid overspray?or maybe even to save from a couple more paychecks and get some real quality paint?the way i see it,if you are going to spend the time prepping and doing the paint, you may as well do it right with something that not only looks better, but lasts longer.if its just for fun, sure, cuz ive spray painted cars but if you only want it done nice and one time,do it right

  • @jayocular I guess you didn't realize that this truck was an experiment. I have an HVLP gun, and 2 stage compressor....I could have shot it like that. This was done to prove the technique.

  • hey that doesnt look to bad

  • @spartan0738 The grey wasnt a bad color....I ended up going with gloss black to see if I could get it to come out right.

  • how long did you have to wait between paint coats for them to dry? you think i can get down to doing the next coat within 4 hours of laying down the first? I have a ceiling fan in the garage if that helps dry out the paint...

  • @happynuts I layed down a coat first thing in the morning after dew dried up....then I would lay down another coat right before dark, probably at least 7-8 hours minimum between coats.
