My family has known Jodi's family since she first moved into our small town as a kid. Knowing them personally I can tell you that the reason her husband looks "happier" on the second appearance is the fact that Jodi is finally at rest. She was going through a tremendous amount of pain for quite a long period of time and when you are losing someone and to see them go through that destroys you. Her family and us friends are dealing with her loss from knowing that she is not in pain anymore.
