Ha sido reconocido como uno de los más importantes trompetistas latinos de las últimas 4 décadas. Nacido el 23 de marzo de 1940 en Houston, Texas. Es hijo de padres mexicanos originarios de Guanajuato, México.




Luis Gasca es un trompetista potente y decidido. Cabalga con ligereza entre el Rock, el Blues, el Jazz y el Jazz Latino. Entre la vibrante y profunda sonoridad, entre el lirismo en la melodía y la libertad. No importa cual sea el escenario donde se presente, el resultado siempre será el mismo: ¡Energía pura!




1958 Cursa la High School y gana una beca para estudiar en la "Berklee School of Music" donde estudió casi 2 años. 1960 Viaja a Los Ángeles y sale en tour con el rey del mambo Dámaso Pérez Prado a Japón por 2 meses y 3 meses en Las Vegas. Graba el álbum: "Greatest Hits". Graba con Count Basie el álbum "Basie on the Beatles" 1961 Gira de 1 año por Estados Unidos con Stan Kenton y su Orquesta y graba el álbum "Adventures in Time".




1962-63 Entra al Ejercito de los Estados Unidos (Army) donde permanece por 2 años.

1964 Viaja a la Capital mexicana para colaborar con el señor Pablo Beltrán Ruiz, Luis Alcaraz y Maria Victoria. 1965 Se integra con Tino Contreras, Vitaminas y Ricardo Lemus. Participación con el grupo de Lobo y Melón.




1967 Va de gira a Londres e Irlanda con Woody Herman Graba el álbum: "Concerto for Herd"




1968 Gira con Mongo Santamaría y graba los LP's "Soul Bag", "Stoned Soul Picnic" y "Working on a Groovy Thing".

Thats my grandpa.Everytime he comes to San Antonio,Tx he plays at Blue Star Brewing Co. He always puts me on the list so that way I get free entry and free food.My last name is GASCA aswell, and even though he made mistakes when he was younger I'll always be proud of him.

Gasca sounds really good here--and the band holds its own with a really difficult chart. Plus you just know they didn't have the time to woodshed it the way Kenton must have done. Gasca did some nice work with Woody Herman as well.
