These are mostly my own segments as a panelist discussing the State Board of Education, during the Texas Freethought Convention on 10/10/10.

The panel included former field biologist, Jamye Johnston, who currently heads the science department of an urban Texas high school. She is the educational analysist for the podcast, Dogma Free America, and who was featured in Skeptical Inquirer magazine and the Skeptoid podcast.

Baptist Deacon Ryan Valentine, Deputy Director of Texas Freedom Network and Director of the allied Texas Faith Network.

Richard Haynes, AKA "Brother Richard", former mega-church minister with a B.S. in Biblical Studies. Currently, he is the executive director of AtheistNexus.org, co-hosts the popular podcast, atheistnews.org, and maintains the blog: LifeWithoutFaith.com.

Here is the full panel discussion:

  • good to see you again Aron.

Have you written any books that I might buy? My only complaint to you is that you dump so much information on a single session, and some of the things you say needs to be chewed upon. So when I hear you I agree with you but when a topic is new to a person, you speak faster than a person can absorb.

I'm an engineer with minimal biology, but I still love this. Write a book. I'll buy it!

But all the above is NOT a complaint. Thanks for your work.

  • An engineer claiming that evolution is false is like a biologist claiming that the wheel never was invented.

  • @benthemiester No, that is not why we are behind in science. We are behind in science because for a very long time it was illegal in the United States to teach the scientific consensus and it is still difficult to do so, because our popular culture is full of extreme misinformation.

  • The Constitution gives us the right to freedom of religion and expression. It is alo interesting how your using the same fear tactics that you accuse others of doing in religion by mentioning Islam. Maybe one of the reasons students are behind in science is because while the rest of the world allows their kids think critically about theories like neo Darwinism which has been taught for the last 70 years we dont. We sue any school district that dares to teach neo Darwinism critically.
