"Flaca", (which means "skinny") was brought to Lighthouse by a woman who found her on the streets. She had been abandoned, in town, by an uncaring owner. Flaca was within two or three days of death. At Lighthouse she was given antibiotics, de-wormer, vitamins, and sub-cutaneous fluids and the woman was instructed to bring her back every week for treatments for her numerous infections, mange, parasites, etc. The woman elected to do it herself at her home with homemade remedies. After about six months Flaca was brought back to Lighthouse. She had gained weight and was back on her feet. Although her health had improved, she still had a long way to go. She thrived at Lighthouse and started healing more rapidly. She is now a very cherished member of her adoptive family. They adore her. This is what rescue is all about.

  • I'm watching Animal Cops Miami and they said they were going to euthanize a dog with mange. i was looking to see if it can be cured without euthanization. There's nothing better than a happy doggy.

  • As you can see by Flacas story it definitely can be cured. Even in a dog who has lots of other issues. Putting a dog down because it has mange is a HUGE no no in my book.

  • what homeade remedies did you use ?

  • I didn't use home made remedies. The lady who brought her to me did. She did give her the antibiotics I had supplied her with, which at least helped Flaca get over the worst of her illnesses, but she was still in really bad shape after six months. When they brought Flaca back to me she still needed LOTS of meds and care she had not received.
