Please explain this equation thing to me further. I understand there's a complex pattern going on in Hill's drumming, but is there actually an equation you can write out to describe it? I always assumed math rock was just a term used for anything with weird time signatures

Actually the math is applied to the drum tracks at least (Hella's Drummer).
The division of the beat isn't where the complexity is, it's how it's layered and organized.

That is exactly what you're supposed to have. You are supposed to seisure your f*ucking guts out while having a elephant fucking you in the ass. While listening to this album, you automatically become Omar's little bitch. Stop questioning creativity, who cares if it's mathematical or not.
Try listening to Hella if you want some heavy shit.
