SYNOPSIS (provided by Paramount Pictures)
For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.
Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim reminds us that education statistics have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR SUPERMAN. As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying drop-out factories and academic sinkholes, methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems.
However, embracing the belief that good teachers make good schools, and ultimately questioning the role of unions in maintaining the status quo, Guggenheim offers hope by exploring innovative approaches taken by education reformers and charter schools that have—in reshaping the culture—refused to leave their students behind.

Unfortunately, it's all an endless cause and effect cycle. Students are dropping out because they are pregnant, discouraged, have social/mental problems (bullying or a disability), don't have the money, and lots of other things. They're from a hyper sexual culture, other students who actually don't care themselves, teachers/schools that don't care or even try, and so much more. It's not as simple as this video says, unfortunately. It should begin with the schools and background first.

What morons like GENERICPLAQUE doesnt know is that the DEMOCRATIC CLOWNS up in SACRAMENTO are whoring out the UNIONs, by pandering to the ILLEGALS to grow the UNION bureaucracy, which has bankrupted the state of CA. CA has no money to pay its teachers. Money that is used to pay COPS, JAILGUARDS, DMV workers & the entire government bureaucracy means there is no money left for the LEGAL citizens to get the services they need even though they pay all the TAXes to SACREMENTO. Hence higher taxes.

@comicbookdude93 The west coast is the PRIME TARGET of CHINESE families wanting to send their kids to UCLA or BERKELEY. OBAMA & his DEMOCRATIC UNION clowns not only has bankrupt CA, but has made college unattainable. College admissions has now gone GLOBAL. Imagine 1 billion CHINESE KIDS applying to UCs? Why would UC REGENTS with a massive budget deficit accept a middle class legal LATINO that needs financial aid, when a CHINESE kid is smarter with perfect grades & can pay out of state TUITION?

@comicbookdude93 I do not mind educating kids that take it seriously. However LA UNIFIED has the most dismal graduation rate for LATIONOs as worst as BLACKS. LEGAL LATINOS & BLACKS that do live here, are being disserviced by the ILLEGALS. Standards are lowered, taxes goes up, NO JOBS, since the UNIONS have bankrupt the private sector, & TUITION has skyrocket due to the UNION educational bureaucracy. The only people that can afford college & smart enough to get accepted now are the CHINESE.

@UCSDEngineerDoctor Your argument is very valid i agree with you even by being a Latino, The number of Latinos that i personally know value education while the Latinos i don't see end up dropping out from school to pursue a career in crime. One of the main reason why Latinos go astray is for the reason that so little support is given: not financial support but more a less there is little support from other ethnic communities. The Latinos are looked down upon by every other ethnic groups.

@scotne1: 6th on that. 7th on UN's Education Index. How do you explain: US has bad notes in those rankings, but their universities are majority in top 20 world university ranking? Do not stick to rankings, because they show only what was their intend. Check yourself what an "average" person knows about history, philosophy, math etc. Theirs curriculum is very limited, simplified.
Other example: French starts in JK, but can an average Canadian communicate fluently with a Quebecois?
