Yes, she was supposely considered but not anymore after Jumbo did not the best business. Shirley McLaine came close to being cast, but Debbie Reynolds faught for the role and won. Urs from London

Shocking trailer, gives away the whole film! Not an issue now of course- really great to see it - but pretty poor for the cinema audience at the time.
