After long struggles, this new film is complete! A two-minute stop-motion music video of sorts, "Over the Hiccups" is part of Negativland's new DVD "Our Favorite Things." Though this film was conceived and executed long in advance, a peculiar and sad coincidence emerged when a friend of the filmmaker's chose to leave us in exactly the same manner portrayed in the film. It is respectfully dedicated to her.

  • Found this by accident because I thought the original song was this mix of cute and hilarious and was in the mood for it... this, though, really gives the track dimensions I never dreamed of. I'd never have believed that it would actually really get to me. Thank you, for making this.

  • @crocutable Thanks so much! Yes, I get equal amounts of hate and love mail for this one. Glad it hit you in the right spot - that's the one I was aiming for.

  • Heartbreaking. If only I could go on that planet and give that little bunny a big hug before she decided to take her own life... what will become of her little planet now? Her cat that she left behind? Certainly her life is not as meaningless as she thinks it is...

I love what you've done with this Negativland track, it really hit a raw nerve. Suicide and depression is something I've struggled with, and certainly thought about. Thank you for making this short. Cheers.

  • @singinglawnchair Thanks for posting your comment! Yes, those who have peered over the dark abyss of self-annihilation don't seem to require much in the way of explanation for this video. And, as you may know from the previous comments, part of why I made this was because of a dear friend who DID commit suicide. Thanks for watching, and double thanks for considering it and responding so thoughtfully.

  • i really do have a problem with how this child's voice is used like this. i think its a wonderful song i've always enjoyed off 'escape from noise' & very well done video. but is the kid aware of this?

  • @anthonyblistex This recording was made so long ago that this girl is about 30 years old now. So I don't think there is too much issue about a little girl being traumatized by the film.

It's funny - I've seen the piece in front of numerous children of many ages - many of them as young as the singer was when she sang this version. Parents freak out pretty consistently, but the kids seem to "get it" really easily. I've never seen one get more than just a bit sad.

  • @goldielocksposition: If you don't like it, go over to Newgrounds and play with the clinically retarded 20-something children there. You'll never do anything 1/100th this good.

  • I am glad to have found this video again after looking for it for many years... the title is quite elusive. I think the film says so much, and those who do not get it, they never will.

  • me a dado miedo xD

  • fuck you . This shit is a bummer and stupid

  • touching
