  • The Crown Vic is the only production car tested to 80mph rear impact crashes. So I think they're doing something right.

  • hate to break this to you but almost every car has fuel tanks located in that spot as wheel as most trucks. the crown vic is nothing like a pinto, they are much safer.

  • is this in the 2004+vics too?

  • @MoPar7055 - I think he meant design and fit a fuel cell that had the same capacity as the original tank.

  • @trysegai

they fixed the pinto for the final few years.(or so I am told) I have a 79 with about 70 000 miles on it. I hope it is blow up proof. I only drive it in the summer

  • You hit almost any car in the rear at 80mph and it's going to crack its fuel tank too.

  • @derbykid911

    Something like that.

All you do is bypass it by connecting the two wires together and moving them inside of the car, away from doors and the trunk space.

Pretty simple, a lot of people down here in sc dont do it and are out in 2 or 3 hits lol

  • @derbykid911 "inertia switch" (spelling?)

  • its a little higher

  • yep...in the crown vic and lincoln towncars there is a fuel pump cutoff switch that is engaged in case of an accident. Its similar to an airbag sensor.

Its located on the drivers side inside of the trunk on the quarter panel

  • @gears2boomshield I hit a really bad pot hole in a Ford van, and then it shut off. I thought I broke something. It was scary. But once I knew the issue, it was easy to resolve.

  • There's not a thing wrong with the Crown Vic's design. The rear end collisions were at 80 mph. Most cars would catch fire at that speed.
