Why?! I mean, I like all sorts of weird instruments, but why this?

Nice, you know I admire someone who has an idea and, just runs with it.

it's a geek toy... noticed the cable? that must be connected to a computer and a software controls the servo mechanism to tighten or loosen the string in a certain sequence. so no need to use your other hand and the it sounds smooth because there are no frets.

is the time response (slide) a function set by you or is it a restriction due to the motors? i.e. can you get it to be quicker if you like?

@54mwi53 --the response time is limited by the motors and amps, but can be much faster than this. This was my first version, the last is about three times faster--not as fast as you can fret, but much faster than you can move your hand up and down the neck. Of course you can go as slow as you want

It is definitely a geek toy, but the computer just takes signals from a keyboard on the top of the neck. The left hand still controls the notes, just not by pressing strings. Check out my single string servo for a synthesizer using the same principle being driven by a midi sequencer

Seems like a big ol steel guitar.

@TaterGumfries Yeah--but you can carry it around, sort of. For some reason I can't get that steel guitar sound. It must be more than just sliding.
