I was watching Factory Made the other day and saw this. Railroad ties are being made out of plastic now. Pretty cool for five minutes. Please comment, rate, and subscribe!

  • If we can get rid of toms of plastic waste without using up other valuable resources, I'm all for it.

  • Well, read all of the comments below.

  • Plastic ties! Come one! Thats the lamest idea ive ever heard! Whats become of railroads these das? Are they so darn cheap that they want to end up losing more money in the end?

  • I know!

  • I saw this one already :D

  • I think its a good idea. Plastic doesnt rot so they will last longer and if they are made on recycled plastic, then even better.

  • I have done some research on this company and they have over 1 million ties in use for the past 14 years, and ties exceed the life of wood especially in wet areas. Must be doing something right!

  • they need to pressure test it on the ends where the wheels will run. not the center. that's why you concentrate tamping tward the ends.

  • good landscaping material.

  • I have noticed this type of video (screen rerecording) popping up a lot here. Is this a way to counter the Google ContentID thingee? This is a serious question, actually, so if anyone knows about this, please let me know. Thanks!

  • I believe the company was called Tietek, and they were out of Texas. The company had all sorts of problems with money, and a couple of huge EEO complaints which they lost. Anyway TieTek went bankrupt in the summer.

  • @arlingtontrains7 No, I think they just hammer the spikes in.

  • @Kleman09 It's actually quite a good idea! These ties are supposedly cheaper and last much longer than the standard wood ties, so it should cost the railways less overall.

  • @ashberryable can you tell me who is the company? thanks.

  • kikass man.. do they needa like predrill holes for the spikes?..
