The Persian Empire was one of the most mysterious civilizations in the

ancient world. Persia became an empire under the Cyrus the Great, who

created a policy of religious and cultural tolerance that became the

hallmark of Persian rule. Engineering feats include an innovative

system of water management; a cross-continent paved roadway stretching

1500 miles; a canal linking the Nile to the Red Sea; and the creation

of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Mausoleum of Maussollos.

The rivalry between Persia and Athens led to a 30-year war known as the

Persian Wars, the outcome of which helped create the world we live in

today. Peter Weller hosts.

  • @bonfirejovi Ok, you really need to learn something about history. the Greeks had amazing scholars architects and inventors. They were civilized, and effective. The Greeks invented the gear, screw, rotary mills, screw press, bronze casting techniques, water clock, water organ, torsion catapult and the use of steam to operate some experimental machines and toys and a chart to find prime numbers. Also what truly brought Greece down was the Ottoman Empire NOT themselves.

  • @mrsyd01 at the time there was no single kingdom of greece. greece was a collection of city states and small kingdoms and Macedon was just another one.

  • @Sheridanhowells02 I stopped watching anything BBC last year, it's just a government propaganda arm.

The history channel isn't much better, though

  • The history channel has very uninteresting documentaries. I think I will stick with the BBC

  • @obifongkenobi "Dead or alive you're coming with me....to the Persian empire"

  • @cobra4027

    The Macedons were no greeks...

  • @cobra4027 i choose to differ. The Greeks were brought down by the Macedonians - 4th century BCE. Then the hellenistic empires followed. Conquered by Rome and the parthians. Then the Imperium Romanum was divided into a Latin western and a hellenistic eastern part. The hellenistic part spoke derived greek. This was one (and only this one), the byzantine (roman) empire was conquered by the ottoman empire. If you choose to lecture, be thouroughly. and pardon my english. regards
