My videos from my sony handycam cant play back on my computer because it doesnt reckonize it.Any advice?

It is. No worries. iMovie is one of the best editing software out there. It accepts up to 89 diff. file formats and MPEG2 is one of them,

You said that you tryed Windows Movie Maker, because the default codecs do work with this camera. That is all I use and it works flawlessly. Easy to use and work with as well. If it doesn't work, try downloading some codecs for Movie Maker. If you are completely sick of the idea, the definetely go with Corel Video Editing. It's about $60.00 and it works amazing as well. Many more features with this software. Good luck and hope this was helpful in your future world class movie making.

I had the same problems when I first bought this camera, and am using Sony Vegas now, I have had my camera for 3 years now. Are you married yet?

I have sony vegas pro 9.0 and it works awesome. It's $600 but it's worth it.

sony vegas pro 9.0 is easy and really good...lots of effects and things you can do with it

hi allecctori - thanx for message - i went another route and got a great video software Sony Vegas movie studio - much better than Microsoft's movie editing software, and all problems solved.

if the codec required isn't installed - then install it! videocodecs can be downloaded anywhere. i think the codec you want with the sony dcr is .avi!

I have this comcorder and use Sony Vegas for all my editing and movie making. I find it perfect for what I need it for.

I ended up buying Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0. So far, I have been happy using it. Still learning about it....Thank you for your input....HAPPY VIDEO MAKING!!!!
