Another drill we do in the Gliding for Figure Skaters workout helps develop the sit spin or "shoot the duck" position. This spin is particularly challenging for skaters who begin at older ages or adult skaters, simply because it is difficult to have both the strength and balance necessary to achieve and hold the position. This drill is a sport-specific technique for developing that strength and balance, but particular attention needs to be paid to form if you want to see improvement.

  • Thank you - I'm going to show this to my Special Olympics roller skater Alexander. He is 13 years old, and just learning how to do a sit spin

  • @gailbuf You're welcome! Best wishes to him!

  • Thanks so so much!

  • @GHannelius100 You're welcome! Check out the sit spin strength exercises in a few of my other videos (More Off-Ice Functional Training and Total Gym Strength Training). I focus on getting deep into the knee bend and building strength in sit spin position. It sure helped me =)

  • @scorptale you are most welcome. Also check out the functional and strength training exercises on the Total Gym. That's how I finally got my cannonball position for my sit...I'm only 5'6 but I have 36" long legs, so I found the sit spin to be the hardest spin for me to learn how to do. Just staying balanced in that position was hard enough, never mind trying to stay centered =)

  • Thank you! Helps a lot!
