It is great to see this, because sometimes you need someone to get the job done when you are focusing on GIVING BIRTH, (and you want your partner to be glued to you), you want to know that there is someone who knows you enough in certain ways, and also can speak for you and  is familiar with your birth plan and preferences so you will not be manipulated, or be pushed in the main stream of hospital procedures.
