"We 'KahoPakistan' forum appeal to amnesty international, human rights organizations, human rights courts, human rights commissions, world's justice organisations, world wide NGO's, U.S. state department and the president of united states to use your honourable office to free/ release Dr. Aafia Sidique on humanitarian ground.
We highlight here the sequence of events for understanding the case.
1. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a brilliant student, American-educated neuroscientist who studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US, for about 10 years and did her PhD in genetics, mysteriously disappeared from Karachi (Pakistan).
2. A mother with 3 children was abducted by FBI/ISI and then transferred to the U.S. Bagram facility in Afghanistan. There, she has claimed that she was brutally tortured and ***ually abused consistently by soldiers and at least one of her few months old child also died during this time. It is also claimed that after this information was leaked to the public, American soldiers created a story to frame up Aafia by placing her in front of an Afghan police station with her elder son and creating a perfect scenario where she can be charged as a would be suicide bomber.
3. She was convicted in a New York court and sentenced for 86 years in prison on charges of two counts of attempted murder and assault of a U.S. officer and FBI agents, using of deadly wapons and carrying explosives. There was no evidence of bullets or residue from a fired gun at the scene of the crime. Surprisingly though, it's Aafia who ended up with two gunshot wounds, inflicted point blank. None of the officials she allegedly attacked sustained any injuries or wounds. All scientific and forensic evidence such as DNA testing and finger printing have exonerated her and on the basis of this we find very difficult to identify how a guilty verdict was reached."
4. Considering the health condition of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's health is very frail, one of her kidneys had been removed while in captivity; her teeth had been removed; her nose had been broken, and improperly reset; that her recent gun-shot wound had been incompetently dressed, was oozing blood, leaving her clothes soaked with blood.
President Obama gave all of us hope when he took over from Bush, promising to shut down the Guantanamo Bay and uphold justice and the rule of law. He also promised of a "new way forward with the Muslim world." He could do so by setting Dr. Aafia free. He should use his extraordinary powers to put an end to this poor woman's terrible, terrible nightmare.
