That's true. Carlin was a real wordsmith when he was alive. He could probably argue with three people at the same time and still beat them all in his day. The world is a darker place without him.

George Carlin and his pointedly intellectual and dry style of humor, appeals precisely to the kind of people who tend to "think" as a matter of habit. Generally these people tend to be far above the national average in intelligence. It is logical to then assume that most of the people who don't like him, feel that way because they either cannot intellectually grasp the humor, or because they politically disagree with many of his punchlines. Both reasons strongly display an element of stupidity.

You do have a point, but no matter how much I listen to Carlin I am never left with the impression that he thinks all that much of himself. He's always struck me as the kind of man who just speaks his mind, the fact that the simple minded flocked around him and proclaimed him a master of wit and word, I think, would not have factored in much for him. If anything he would have told people to blow it out their ass.

I have no doubt that Carlin could run circles around me with his wit, although I don't think he would necessarily deny that he was considered a master wordsmith by many. I certainly don't think he would be displeased with such an accusation.
